Malt Loaf

I love Malt Loaf. I think it's one of the most underestimated foods ever. Even the name "Malt Loaf" lacks the charisma it deserves. It doesn't really make you expect much. But the proof is in the eating.

I'm not sure how long it's been around, but it feels like for ever. When Adam was in the garden and he and Eve had not yet had anything to argue about, I'm sure they shared some Malt Loaf spread with fresh butter, without additives. No margarine in sight and no sell by date: also no children yet to pinch it out of the cupboard.

I don't know what it is about it: but Malt Loaf just works. Enough substance, a rich taste, and an aura of healthiness which means you can have a second bit without being told about your waistline. The third bit is more tricky.

There is an insatiable desire to try new foods today. You could try some eucalyptus chutney, wasabi rhizomes, or even some blueberry acai gummy pandas. And if you've got over your 'growing appetite for fancy energy snacks, infused bottled waters and all things organic' (quote the Times), you could even try some Coffee Berry Juice. Drawn from the berry that houses the green coffee bean, this juice is sweetened slightly with strawberry puree.

I've given up Caffeine drinks and chocolate recently. And survived- though I did have some withdrawal symptoms. I certainly became more level in my emotions: and I don't think it's good to live in a state of constant stimulation. My wife believes that the most natural foods and drinks are the best for us, and I tend to agree with her, though we do both love Macdonalds Apple Pies, which are probably 0% natural and 100% fat. I'm sure God knew what he was doing.

Come to think of it, it's true right across life really. I mean, God knows what's best for us, and it's up to us to choose wisely. The Bible says he's "given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." For life AND godliness. And there's the truth. You can be godly AND have life to the full, enjoying all the good things he's given. In fact that's the idea...

Please don't tell Sarah that they're doing two Apple pies for 99p in Macdonalds...
